REVIEW!'s Best Of 2018

December 19, 2018

Its been a solid year for music.

To be fair we say it most years but theres certainly been something in the air for 2018 when it comes to the calibre of releases we have seen. Whilst we have seen many major releases by big bands who can fill most venues easily,  2018 will probably be remembered for the not so big bands who hit the ball out of the park.

This year proved that the underground was alive and well, Black Metal is reigning supreme and that hardcore will always have a place in most of our hearts. We saw bands such as Terror, Madball, Sick Of It All, Turnstile and Birds In Row  put out records that were not only absolute blinders but proved to be just as savage live.

Behemoth managed to put out one of their most polarising records in their illustrious back catalogue, one that had many fans torn but was ultimately a big success drawing in many fans old and new. Speaking of polarising, the beginning of the year looked to be a tough one for bay area metallers Machine Head, with 'Catharisis', an album that would go on to be talked about by pretty much everyone and which generated some conflicting reviews..

Some of the Black Metal that surfaced this year felt like a turning point in the genre with many more fans starting to take notice. Of course its hard ignore when Wiegedood and Drudkh both put out some of the best the genre had to offer in the last decade. But it doesn't end there. Marduk, Immortal, Mantar, Vreid & Ultha all bringing some great music to the table in what has been a sensational year.

So the question remains, which records made our 2018 top lists. Check out the below for what we felt were our favourites of the year.
