This was the week that the travelling circus that is Igorrr reached London. After the overwhelming success of their 'Savage Sinusoid' album they have undertaken an extensive tour across Europe. Can they possibly replicate that album in the live arena?
The answer is a resounding yes! Laure Le Prunenec sings beautifully and dances gracefully around the stage whilst Laurent Lenoir growls and prowls in his caveman attire. Sylvain Bouvier provides the drum accompaniment. All other instruments and sounds are provided by the ringmaster of this show, the composer and driving force behind Igorrr, Gautier Serre.
The large Islington crowd loved it all, getting more and more frenzied towards the finale. An amazing feat for a band that is impossible to categorise. Is it Metal? Opera? French folk? Electro? Is the live show Music? Theatre? Dance? The answer to all these questions is yes! So many styles and genres woven together to make a whole that is so much bigger and better than its parts.
It was impossible to take your eyes off the performers whilst your ears were assaulted by operas beauty and death metals snarls simultaneously. By the time the set finished with the electronic track 'Robert' the band members were in the crowd who were loving it.
An amazing evening spent with a band more than happy to tear us all out of our musical comfort zones. Vive la difference!
