As another year passes, we approach yet another Ramblin Man Fair. Maidstone has never been so lucky as its glorious Mote Park looks to play host to the 3rd annual Fair which makes its way with a full line-up of classic acts that is sure to whet the appetite of those in attendance.
Last year we were treated to a star studded line-up consisting of headliners Whitesnake who continue to embark upon their last ever tour. Coverdale and company made their way through a greatest hits set list which proved to be one of the major highlights of the day. In addition, Blackstone Cherry brought their southern sounding groove to the big stage providing everyone with ample opportunities for huge sing-a-longs and fun all around. The two headliners proved to be enough for fans to pack out Mote Park but if that wasn’t enough, last year’s edition also brought the likes of The White Buffalo, Thin Lizzy, Europe, Terrorvision, Thunder and many many more. You can read all about it in last year’s reviews in our live music section.
With some big boots to fill, the festival is attempting to outdo themselves on this year’s return with an evenbigger and better line-up. So let us check out some of the bands the festival has on offer this year shall we?
Lionize make their return to the UK after a hugely successful tour with Clutch at the back end of last year that saw them play a good chunk of venues around the country including the illustrious Roundhouse in Camden. The band who have always had a soft spot for the UK are sure to bring their groovy sounding rock to the big stage and wow the mote park audiences as they continue to fill their set lists with new material on the cusp of their new album dropping, the follow up to last years ‘The Voyage’ EP. Heads will be nodding, Beers will be raised and people will be singing and Lionize become the summer treat of this year’s festival season right here at Ramblin Man Fair 2017
Speaking of summer treats, Black Star Riders shall also grace us with their presence as Ricky Warwick makes his return to Ramblin Man after last years huge performance with Thin Lizzy which saw the crowd go wild. It’s been a very busy time for the band as they continue to make their way through Europe having only just finished a UK run in support of this years ‘Heavy Fire’ record. Given the band and their roots, it only seems right that they join this year’s line-up capping off an enormous summer for both the band and the festival. It’s not one to be missed so be sure to grab a fine ale of whiskey and find a great spot in front of the stage for one of the most exciting bands of the year.
Kansas need no introduction. There will be die-hard fans and there will be the causal fans who know theband for “them two songs”. Regardless, this is one of our own personal top choices of the weekend as the band continue to play shows in celebration of the 40th anniversary of ‘Leftoverture’. Yes, you read that right. Forty years since we first heard the likes of ‘Carry On My Wayward Son’ one of many of the records highlights that came to define the band and one that will certainly gain the interest of many over the course of the weekend!
Another legendary act keeping themselves busy at the moment are ZZ Top who are still going strong all of these years later. We can almost imagine it now. Plenty of beers and sunshine as ‘La Grange’ is played live and loud for everyone. Could this be the set that really makes us feel like summer is here? Only time will tell!
Our final band in our top five includes California’s very own Rival Sons who are absolutely red hot right now especially after last years ‘Hollow Bones’ record that was released through Earache Records. The band will visit the Ramblin Man Fair as part of their huge scorcher of a tour currently underway that is not due to end until August. The Ramblin fans can be assured that they will be bringing the best version of themselves to the stage after plenty of warm up shows beforehand. Rival Sons may very well be the soundtrack to your summer after this!
It sould also be worth noting that this year brings an extra special treat to the table with an extra day! That’s right, unlike the previous years, the 2017 edition of the Ramblin Man Fair begins on Friday 28th with a special headline set from heavy metal legends Saxon who will be warming up the early festival goers!
The Ramblin Man Fair takes place at Mote Park, Maidstone from Friday 28th July. And tickets can be purchased here: http://www.ramblinmanfair.com/buy-tickets/
